OE Tuning F80 M3 – ECU Tune Dyno Testing and Development

Recently we had the opportunity to dyno test the OE Tuning Stage 1 ECU tune for 2015 BMW F80 M3 at Autowave in their state of the art Mainline Dyno Cell. The benefits of testing a high performance vehicle in a well engineered dyno cell are many. Maintaining constant airflow, cooling and intake air temps while keeping all conditions the same, ensure rolling road conditions similar to on road driving. The results are accurate data to make operating changes needed to gain the best, safe performance and numbers to the wheel. Also the benefit of CAN logging via OBD2 allows the tuner to compare real-time vehicle operating data against dyno recorded output variables like Horsepower and Air-Fuel ratio. Whether you are wanting to dyno a Honda or exotic Italian sports car, Autowave’s Mainline dyno cell is state of the art and extremely accurate for tuning any vehicle.
The vehicle tested was a 2015 F80 M3 with no mods running CA91 premium pump gas. After tuning the 3.0 L S55B30 inline 6 twin turbo powerplant, gains of +75wTq and +65wHp were seen to the wheels with only the addition of OE Tuning ECU Tune. After the ECU is unlocked, tunes are loaded via OBD2. Another tune feature is the option for owners is to enable exhaust “Crackles and Pops” made in overrun. Below is a video that better describes this process.

2015 BMW S1000RR ECU Tune – Dyno Tested

The BMW S1000RR has been the best performing superbike on the market for the last 5 years. The newly updated 2015 S1000RR is no exception, only bettering the previous model with a higher output of 199Hp from factory! Since the release of the 2015 model we have been developing and testing tuning packages to suit. BMW 420i (N20B20) ECU Tuning – Dyno Tested

Recently we had the opportunity to dyno test our ECU tune for BMW 420i (F32) with 2.0L N20B20 powerplant. The 420i was tested on a 4×4 Dyno Dynamics dynamometer at OE Tuning Master dealer, BMR Autowerkes in Sydney, Australia. Tested vehicle had a “piggy back” tuning box connected so we tested power with tuning box connected first, then removed the tuning box, tested stock baseline power before loading the ECU tune for testing. The ECU tuning results over the tuning box were very strong at every RPM point. When the ECU tune is compared to the stock power run, the gains are amazing! ECU Tuned power is more than a stock 428i! +40-45% more power!!

GL450 V6 BiTurbo ECU Tune – Dyno Tested

Mercedes Benz new 3.0L V6 Biturbo has proven to be a great platform for performance tuning. The GL450 comes standard with 362 Horsepower and 369 Torque. After tuning we saw huge gains of +124wTq @3600rpm and +106wHp @4600rpm to all 4 wheels on a 4×4 Mainline Dyno. An unmodified GL450 running CA91 premium pump fuel was dyno tested.  Gains can be seen on the pictured graph below, the unmodified Baseline (Blue) vs OE Tuning ECU Tune (Red).

GLA45 AMG ECU Tune Dyno Tested – Stage 2

The 2.0L Turbo M133 powerplant found in the 45AMG is proving to be a great platform for modifications and making power from tuning. Already claiming 360Hp from factory, after tuning the ECU we see a 30-35% Power and Torque increase.

Stage 2 Tuning:

We recently had the opportunity to test our Stage 2 ECU tune for 45AMG on a GLA45 AMG equipped with Weistec downpipe and the results speak for them self…… While testing on a 4×4 Mainline Dyno we saw gains of +90-95awHp and +95-100awTq from just the tune alone (Baseline test was with downpipe already installed.). Dyno displayed below depicts HP and Tq gains at all 4 wheels. Light blue is the Baseline test and Yellow is the ECU Tuned test.

CLA45 AMG ECU Tune – Dyno Tested

The CLA45 AMG redefines the compact car sector. Boasting the highest horsepower:liter ratio of any production vehicle, the 2.0L Turbocharged powerplant puts out a whopping 355Hp@6000rpm! Power is put to the tire via a multi-disc clutch with AMG-specific electro-hydraulic control, that makes variable torque distribution possible.  Depending on the handling situation, torque distribution can vary from 50:50 AWD 4-Matic (Front:Rear:) to 100% front-wheel drive. This all makes for an exhilarating driving experience.

High performance vehicles from AMG are known to be tuned conservatively from factory while still making strong power to generates customer sales. The 45AMG powerplant is no exception, with great results seen after tuning the ECU.

The car tested for the purpose of ECU tune dyno testing was a US-Spec 2014 CLA45 AMG running CA91 premium pump gasoline with no modifications. From running the car on a AWD Mainline Dyno the first thing to note is the way the torque-split transfers power between the front and rear wheels. From tuning the ECU alone gains of  +68wHp @4550rpm (+43wHp peak Hp Gains) and +102wTq @3500rpm (+30-35% extra Torque) were seen to the wheels on the dyno. Dyno results are displayed below (Blue – Stock, Red – Tuned) . Drivability testing proved that getting grip on the stock Continental tires is now a problem.

Smart Car Tuning (451) – 1.0L US Spec ECU Tuning

US Spec Smart Car Dyno

We have all seen Smart cars on the road.  Small, economical and park anywhere.  What most do not know about these cars, is that they can be very fun to drive while staying extremely practical.  We have been tuning Smart cars in the USA, since they were available for purchase in 2008. Over this time, much has been learned about what is needed to improve the driving experience.  From tuning the ECU performance is improved with increased throttle response, removed top speed limiter and reduction in the jerkiness and lunging between shifts.  This makes for a smoother car to drive and enjoyable ride.

Stage 1 ECU Tune

The stage 1 tune is designed with the driver in mind.  We recommend using premium fuel for best performance gains and best fuel economy.

The car tested was a 2014 US Spec Smart 451 1.0L naturally aspirated engine with no mods running 91 octane premium fuel on a 2WD Dyno Dynamics dyno. Gains of +5wHp were seen on the dyno @6850rpm, a 12% improvement in power with +7-8wTq gained. The dynograph below displays stock in red and tuned in blue.

Top speed after tuning was verified via GPS. 113mph was seen on the GPS when the speedometer was maxed out.

Stage 2 ECU Tune

Stage 2 includes install of headers with OE Tuning Stage 2 ECU Tune to suit. Gains over stock after installing headers and retuning were +16.1wHp a 26% increase in power over stock, with +15wTq.  Below is the dynograph displaying stock in read vs. stage 2 tune with headers in blue. The car is now much faster and really fun to drive.

We are proud to release a new type OBD2 flashing system for Android devices. The way is works is really easy. Once you purchase the DPF, “DroidPersonalFlasher”, connect the USB end of your charge cable to the device and connect to your vehicle’s OBD2 port. Maps are then uploaded and downloaded via the Cloud.
DroidPersonalFlasher is a VIN based OBD2 flasher able to read/write ECU internal firmware.
Once the interface reads the car, the read file will be instantly available on tuner web-based backend.
A maximum of 4 modified files can be stored on the cloud and the user can flash the original read file from the car or any modified tune as many times as needed.

2014 Jaguar F-Type S, ECU Tuning – Dyno Tested

Jaguar has long had the image as a “gentleman driver’s” car. Although very comfortable, performance was not really what came to mind when thinking “Jag”….. That has all changed. Jaguar has undergone a complete makeover during the past few years, making cars now that have performance well in sight. The F-Type S is no exception to the new Jag way of thinking. We recently tested our ECU tune for the 2014 Jaguar F-Type S equipped with the 5.0L Supercharged engine. The results were huge! Gains of 40-50wTq and 50-60wHp were seen to the wheels on a 2WD Dyno Dynamics dyno (displayed below). From street testing car, the car pulls extremely strong all the way to redline after tuning.  Improvement to drivability makes the car effortless and extremely fun to drive. The vehicle tested was a convertable model, running CA91 premium pump gas with no modifications.  The Tune is installed via OBD2 flash. This same powerplant is also shared with Range Rover 5.0L Supercharged models. Range Rover tuning also available.

Stage 2 CLS500 – M278 BiTurbo (CLS550 in USA) – Tuning Results

All gear heads have the same way of thinking….. “There is never enough power!”.  That being said, this is why tuners offer packages like “Stage1” or “Stage2” for example.

Mercedes Benz power-train “M278” is a 4.7 liter twin-turbo (called “bi-turbo” by Mercedes Benz) monster after tuning. (The M278 power-train is named “550” in the USA and “500” in other parts of the world.) After installing the OE Tuning “Stage1” ECU Tune the car tested picked up +110-130wTq & 100-110wHp to the wheels on the dyno above factory stock specs (dynograph displayed below) running premium pump fuel. When compared during a side-by-side comparison on the street the OE Tuning tuned CLS500 has performance slightly better than a CLS63 biturbo and equal to that of a CLS63 bitturbo with Performance Package.

Baseline vs. ECU Tune

Once “off-road” down-pipes and exhaust are installed, the M278 CLS500 was ready for OE Tuning “Stage2” tuning to suit. The results speak for them  self……. +120-130wHp & +175-185wTq gained on the low-end and mid-range and +105-110wHp on the top-end to the wheels on the dyno running premium pump fuel (dynograph displayed below). So……. You don’t need an AMG to have AMG performance.
